Members of the Young Farmers Clubs of Ulster recently showcased a range of musical pieces at the association’s annual Choir Festival which was held at Magherafelt High School, on Thursday the 8th December 2022. This well-loved competition is kindly sponsored by Power NI.
YFCU President Peter Alexander quoted; “The choir festival was a great success, all the choirs who took part have put a lot of hard work and effort into their performances which really showed on the night. It certainly got everyone in the festive spirit."
The Competition saw entries from 10 Young Farmers Clubs, Collone YFC, Curragh YFC, Finvoy YFC, Glarryford YFC, Gleno Valley and Straid YFC, Holestone YFC, Kilrea YFC, Moneymore YFC and Trillick and District YFC. The competition did not just see a fantastic turnout in choirs but also spectators, who came down to support YFCU members.
Curragh YFC, who have not taken part since 2017, made a fantastic return to the competition coming second overall and also took home Best Newcomer along with Best Solo. However it was Moneymore YFC who proved the top choir of the evening, taking the awards for Best Choral Piece singing ‘Noel’ and Best Accompaniment awarded to Rosanna Hunter & Judith Campbell, as well as overall 1st Place in the competition.
Adjudicators on the night were Ruth McCartney & John Trueman.Ruth offered the participating choirs the benefit of their expertise by relating some constructive and encouraging advice on their performances at the end of the evening. The prizes for the competition were then announced by John Truemen and presented by Power NI’s Commercial Marketing Manager, Amy Bennington.
The YFCU would like to thank Magherafelt, High School for the use of the facilities and special thanks must also go to the adjudicators for giving up their time and expertise to adjudicate the event as well as Amy Bennington, Commercial Marketing Manager, Power NI, for coming down to support YFCU members.
