Moneymore YFC gave it their all at the YFCU Choir Festival

The Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster (YFCU) held their annual Choir Festival, in partnership with Platinum Sponsor and Sustainability Partner, Power NI on Friday 6th December 2025 in Whitla Hall, Methodist College, Belfast.

The competition saw entries from ten Young Farmers Clubs which were Coleraine YFC, Collone YFC, Crumlin YFC, Curragh YFC, Holestone YFC, Kilraughts YFC, Lisnamurrican YFC, Moneymore YFC, Moycraig YFC and Trillick & District YFC. The prizes for ‘Best Choral Piece’  and ‘2nd Place Overall’ were awarded to Moneymore YFC.

Jack Hunter, a member of Moneymore YFC said “we were delighted with our result at the competition. In every competition, we always give everything we’ve got so it was great when our hard work was awarded”.

Having started practicing for the competition in October 2024, members of Moneymore YFC who were participating, faithfully met up once a week until the competition took place. “We were completely blown away with the interest from our members, we had over 40 in our choir and 18 of those members were aged between 12 and 14”, Jack commented. “Alongside my sisters Catherine and Roseanna, I have trained the choir for the past three years, and over that time, it has doubled in size which is very encouraging”, he continued.

Jack explained that a lot of thought goes into the process of choosing songs, with his sisters helping him to think about potential pieces all year round. “When I first heard the song, Not Too Far From Here, I knew it was the one and thankfully my sisters agreed with me. It’s a song with a meaningful message behind it and we really wanted to put that across, especially at Christmas time. We did find it harder to choose the second piece, but eventually agreed after much discussion on It’s Christmas by Chris Tomlin as we found it upbeat and great fun”, Jack said.

Jack described Moneymore YFC as a club that loves to sing, so the Choir Festival is always a competition they are excited to take part in. “Singing in a choir is a real team effort and it brings our club members closer together and deepens friendships. Taking part in the Choir Festival also helps us to prepare for the annual Arts Festival competition, which our members look forward to every year”.
