The Balmoral Show 2025 was alive with energy as Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster (YFCU) members gathered bright and early on Thursday morning for one of the most respected and anticipated events on our calendar – the Stock Judging Competition.

This year, thanks to the generous support of Fane Valley, the competition was another great success, drawing talented young judges from across Northern Ireland to demonstrate their expertise in both Beef and Dairy Stock Judging.
What Is Stock Judging?
Stock judging is a vital skill in agriculture – teaching young farmers how to assess the health, structure, and conformation of livestock based on breed standards and production potential. Competitors must then present their findings clearly and confidently to expert judges.
For many, it’s a chance to develop industry knowledge, critical thinking, and public speaking skills – all essential for future farming careers.
