Members Enjoy 5 Nations Conference in Wales
The trip began Wednesday (14th) evening, with members arriving before supper and preparing for a busy few days exploring Welsh agriculture, businesses, culture and outdoor activities.

Thursday combined personal development with team challenges at Glan Llyn. Wyn Williams delivered an engaging session on teams, leadership and change, before members put their teamwork to the test by building a raft. Matthew and Joyce join participants and took to the water to try out their creation, and thankfully, it didn’t sink! The afternoon brought an archery competition, where Grace achieved an impressive second place overall. The day finished with country introductions where members showcased local produce from each nation before having a go at traditional Welsh folk dancing.
Friday focused on Welsh agriculture and local businesses. Members visited Ifor Williams Trailers to learn more about the renowned trailer manufacturer, followed by a visit to Rhug Estate. At Llaeth y Llan village dairy, the group was shown the yoghurt manufacturing process, gaining an insight into the production behind the popular Welsh dairy products. The day concluded at Vale Vineyard, where members explored the Welsh vineyard and enjoyed a wine-tasting experience.
Saturday brought a competitive edge with the Food and Drink Wales Challenge. The winning entry was the innovative new product “Maeth Prydferth”, featuring Northern Ireland members Victoria and Matthew on the team. The group then headed to Zip World Llechwedd for an afternoon of adventure, including Bounce Below and underground golf in the slate mine chambers, before enjoying a final social evening together.
The trip concluded on Sunday morning where before members departed.
Overall, the trip offered a fantastic opportunity to develop leadership and teamwork skills, learn more about Welsh agriculture and food production, experience Welsh culture and strengthen friendships across the young farmers’ movement. The Northern Ireland members certainly made their mark, with raft-building success, archery achievements and a winning entry in the food and drink challenge!
