YFCU Silage Making Competition Held Remotely

Richard Marshall from Clanabogan YFC has been named the winner of the Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster 2021 Silage Making Competition sponsored by John Thompson & Sons Limited.

The annual competition saw over 20 YFCU members across the country taking part to showcase their silage making skills. This year’s silage making was judged virtually with some extra steps in the judging process. The 20 plus YFCU members were narrowed down to 6 finalists, who had to send samples of their silage via post to John Thompson & Sons Limited for judging. In the final stage, each of the 6 finalists had an individual video call with the judges in relation to the analysis that came back from Thompsons.

James Purcell from name Dungiven YFC was placed second, with Mark Johnston from Randalstown YFC in third. Andrew Patton from Newtownards YFC, Andrew Boyes from Bleary YFC and Daniel Dunne- Kesh YFC were also highly commended for making it through to the final stage.

YFCU would like to thank the judges Phillip Donaldson (Thompsons representative) and David Dunlop for giving up their time and making their expertise available to the Association. It would also like to extend a note of appreciation to John Thompson & Sons Limited for their continued support of this event this year for going virtual.
