The junior teams explored the motion “It is better to grow up in an urban area than a rural area,” while the senior teams debated the topic “Electric vehicles should be prioritised over conventional petrol and diesel vehicles.” Both

debates sparked lively discussion and demonstrated the confidence, teamwork, and critical thinking that YFCU members are known for.

The guest speaker Priscilla Woods from the Northern Ireland Safety Group

shared her experiences of a career that has taken her across the globe and highlighted how debating and communication skills have played a vital role in her success.

The competition was generously sponsored by SONI Ltd. We were delighted to welcome William Sufferin from SONI, who spent time chatting with members and even sat in on one of the debates.

YFCU extends sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of this year’s competition. Our judges provided expertise and fairness throughout the heats and finals, stewards ensured the smooth running of the event, and the competing members brought energy and enthusiasm to every debate. Their commitment continues to make YFCU debating a highlight of the year.

This event not only celebrated debating excellence but also reinforced the importance of communication skills in shaping future leaders.
