‘We have supported them in the past and we will continue to support them!’ Even though several large charitable club fundraisers have been cancelled this hasn’t stop Young Farmers’ Clubs Across the country supporting their chosen charities!

Marie Curie approached Kilraughts YFC for help in collecting and distributing their Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) across the Ballymoney region including; Ballymena, Ballymoney, Ballycastle and Coleraine. In order for Kilraughts YFCU to reach as many areas as possible they joined forces with their neighbouring Young Farmers’ Club Coleraine.

Joy Spreadborough, Marie Curie stated, ‘in this area Marie Curie is only receiving PPE on a daily basis and supplies are tight. We have asked the young farmers to help cover deliveries one day a week in order to ensure staff have as much stock as possible to help protect them against Covid-19.’

Erinn Ramsay, Kilraughts Young Farmers’, stated; ‘I completed my first delivery last week where I had to go to Logans (Cloughmills) to meet another delivery driver who had brought PPE from Belfast from Marie Curie’s PPE producer. I collected the supplies and was given two addresses to go to, one in Ballycastle and the other in Castlerock. Sometimes the supplies are for carers while other times they are for their patients.’

Erinn goes on to say; ‘Marie Curie is a charity which we (Kilraughts) have supported and fundraised for in the past and one which is will continue to support through helping them in any way we can during these unprecedented times.

Young Farmers’ Clubs have been extremely active in their rural areas offering their support, services and time for free! One member, stated, ‘It’s so strange having time to ourselves, we might as well volunteer and keep busy for we’re all used to being busy in our free time!’

All the clubs’ involved in helping their communities have been following government guidelines in order to keep themselves and others safe!
