The leading rural youth organisation in Northern Ireland, Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster (YFCU), announced their Presidential team at their AGM in April 2026, and twenty-three-year-old Karen Walker was delighted to be re-elected as one of four Vice Presidents of the organisation.

Karen, who is serving her second consecutive year in the role, was raised on her family's dairy, beef and sheep farm, where her passion for agriculture first developed. She graduated from Ulster University in 2025 with a degree in Biomedical Science and is currently employed in a graduate role with Almac Pharma Services. Outside of work and YFCU, Karen enjoys spending time with friends and family, particularly her nieces and nephew.
Throughout her time at YFCU, Karen has held a variety of positions at the club, county, and central levels. Among her most rewarding roles was serving as Club Secretary, where she enjoyed encouraging members to step outside their comfort zones and watching their confidence develop. She is currently in her second year as Chairperson of the Programme and Development committee, a position she describes as both rewarding and impactful.

As Vice President, Karen is committed to representing and supporting members across the organisation. She is passionate about ensuring that YFCU's opportunities remain relevant, engaging, and accessible while introducing new ideas that reflect members' changing interests. She also aims to support clubs and officials by ensuring they have the resources and guidance needed to succeed, and is keen to encourage members to take full advantage of the wide range of competitions, activities and personal development opportunities available through YFCU.

Reflecting on her involvement in the organisation, Karen highlighted the diversity of experiences YFCU offers. From floral art and stock judging to international travel and unique activities, she believes there is something for everyone. She also values the strong sense of community within YFCU and is inspired by the way clubs contribute to and support their local areas.
Karen said she is honoured to continue serving as Vice President and looks forward to another year working alongside members, clubs and fellow office bearers to help shape the future of the organisation. The Young Farmers' Clubs of Ulster remains one of Northern Ireland's leading rural youth organisations, providing opportunities for personal development, leadership, competition and friendship for thousands of young people across the province. Karen explained to members at the AGM on Saturday 25th April 2026 about how she looks forward to working closely with the rest of the Presidential team and staff at YFCU headquarters.
