Chairperson of Committee

"The Travel Committee was set up in 2019 and has since grown to help promote travel and exchange opportunities to YFCU members. We meet in person four times throughout the year at either Greenmount or Loughry CAFRE campuses or YFCU Headquarters office and have online meetings in between".

The Travel Committee consists of a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Past Chairperson, one or two representatives from the YFCU Presidential team, one member of staff, up to eight additional members and up to five co-options, such as representatives from the Young Farmer Ambassadors. Each year, the roles of Chairperson and Vice Chairperson are elected by the current committee members ahead of the YFCU AGM. All committee members can hold a seat on the committee for a maximum of two years, unless elected into a different role. The selection process ensures that those elected have a strong passion and interest for the committee, and are geographically spread out across Northern Ireland which will help to guage their knowledge in the field. All members appointed onto the commitee must be willing to committ to the work of the committee for at least one year.

The Travel Committee aims to promote a wide range of travel opportunities to members and encourage active participation in the travel programme, acting as a link between incoming and outgoing exchangees and hosts. Committee members seek to develop as many opportunities as possible for their fellow members, which includes exchange trips across the UK and Ireland, as well as group travel opportunities and Rural Youth Europe experiences. As well as this, committee members advocate for the voice of young people living in rural communities across Northern Ireland and encourage them to get out of their comfort zone and travel across Europe.

The Travel Committee promote available opportunities through the YFCU social media accounts and website, where members can view the different options in their own time. They facilitate information evenings to share experiences and benefits of travel opportunities and this is done in conjunction with partners, such as the Young Farmers' Ambassadors. Committee members engage with stakeholders such as Rural Youth Europe to share feedback and discussions to help maximise the voices of young people living in rural communities across Northern Ireland, and actively seek feedback from participants to continually develop and improve the offering from YFCU travel.
