"The Programme & Development Committee works alongside the Events staff at Headquarters to develop programmes and competitions, making suggestions for improvement. We review issues raised by the Executive Committee, consider new training opportunities, come up with sponsorship packages and discuss ideas brought forward by members".

The Programme & Development Committee is made up of three member representatives from each of the six Counties across Northern Ireland, alongside a representative from the Presidential team and a member of staff. The committee meet every two months and between meetings, get together in their sub-groups to discuss particular areas of matter. There are four sub-groups: Balmoral Show, Arts Competitions, Agricultural Competitions and a committee focused on supporting judges and stewards at events.

The Programme & Development Committee sets out achievement plans for each year, where they evaluate and review all events and competitions in the means of a traffic light system. Competitions that are excelling are categorised green, competitions that are decreasing in participation numbers are categorised amber and competitions that have limited entries are categorised red. This helps the committee to prioritise what events and competitions need their attention.

The Programme & Development Committee support members and aim to increase competition entries across Northern Ireland, through engaging with members and keeping them informed on the different events hosted by YFCU. They work to communicate with members on a level of understanding where they will respond to events and competitions and seek to take part. The committee works together to provide new ideas and improve competitions, presenting their suggestions to the Executive Committee and Headquarters staff.
