The final of the YFCU’s annual tag rugby tournament, in association with platinum sponsor Danske Bank, took place on Wednesday 28th July at Rainey Endowed School, Magherafelt.
The action kicked off with winning teams of the junior county heats taking to the pitch. The top teams in the league competed in the semi-finals which resulted in Collone YFC and Randalstown YFC going head to head in a dramatic final which ended in a 'sudden-death' situation. Following an exciting final, Randalstown YFC picked up the Rosemary Cooper shield and the YFCU Tag Rugby 2021 junior title.
The senior section of the tournament took place concurrently with the winners of the senior county heats taking to the pitch and the top teams from the league making it through to the semi-finals. This resulted in Ahoghill YFC facing Kilraughts YFC in the final.
Kilraughts YFC emerged victorious and received the Adrian Cooper Shield and YFCU Tag Rugby 2021 senior title.
YFCU President Peter Alexander announced the winners and Rodney Brown, Danske Bank’s Head of Agri Business was in attendance, representing the competition sponsors Danske Bank, Winning teams then came up to collect the Rosemary Cooper and Adrian Cooper shields as well as the commemorative medals.
Fair Play awards were presented to Collone YFC (juniors) and Kilrea YFC (seniors) for the courtesy and respect they showed towards their team mates, opposition and referee.
The YFCU would like to take this opportunity to thank Danske Bank for their continued support of this YFCU event and also thank the referees who attended the finals; YFCU Deputy President Stuart Mills alongside Gary Simms from Ulster Rugby. Thanks were also extended to the final stewards who ensured that the competition ran smoothly; Laura Patterson and Natasha Adams.
