The Materials Division of Northstone (NI) Limited is one of the leading quarry, civil engineering and road contractors operating in Northern Ireland and Border Counties. Due to continuous growth the opportunity has arisen for Site Engineer. The successful applicant will primarily be involved in the daily inspection of the quality of the work completed onsite. Alongside with the site team you will initiate continuous improvements to ensure the project is delivered on time and within budget. This will ensure the customers’ expectations are met, whilst aligning activities within industry standards. This role will be based in the Omagh area, working across our Carrickmore and Mountfield sites.

In this role the successful candidate will report to the Area Contracts Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Build strong working relationships with the Engineering team and sub-contractors
Provide engineering support to ensure technical problems are overcome and technical queries are answered
Regularly check the setting out points and benchmarks. Checking that all setting out instruments and measuring equipment are delivered to site with a calibration certificate and recorded accordingly
Ensures workforce understand setting out information has been identified as suitable for the type of work being carried out
Liaise with local authorities (where applicable) to ensure compliance with local construction regulations and by – laws.
Take a proactive approach to managing Health and Safety on site, and complete H&S paperwork and making sure all H&S protocols are Adhered to
Co-ordinate and supervise temporary works as require.
Communicate with the client to solve problems on site or raise technical queries
Support senior management in coordinating trades, direct labour, and materials to meet the construction project.
Record and monitor planned versus actual for subcontract progress
Managing staff and resources on site so that the job project is not delayed and accurately review the project and establish key dates and milestones.
Identification and upward reporting of discrepancies in design information.
Record and Control external and internal plant hire movements
Obtain, understand and apply the requirements of the attendance sheets for all sub contract packages
Maintaining a good professional relationship with clients and their site team
Completing H&S paperwork and making sure all protocols are adhered to.
Communicate with the client to solve problems on site or raise technical queries

Skills & Experience
Sound knowledge of engineering, latest building regulations, legislation and Health and Safety
Educated to Degree level in an engineering discipline or have relevant work experience.
Familiar and works with RAMS and 3 day look up
Working knowledge of the complete Microsoft Office suite
Proficient in the use of AutoCAD
Good communication skills (verbal and written) and able to engage with all stakeholders at all levels
Self-motivated. Capable of working on own initiative and able to motivate a team
Excellent attention to detail and meticulous planning and organisational skills Is essential
Flexible approach to working hours and travel to other locations across NI & Donegal when necessary.
