Lead Engineer


We are recruiting for a Lead Engineer for our rooftile manufacturing, the successful candidate will be a key member of our rooftile management team.

About the job

This role will be key to developing the management and performance of the manufacturing of concrete rooftiles at our Factory in Toomebridge. The successful candidate will work with our Factory Manager in delivering and maintaining Operational Excellence for this facility.
Northstone will provide a training development program for the successful applicant to support the skills and knowledge required for this role.
The successful applicant will also be involved in other activities from time to time as required by the Senior Management Team.
Key Responsibilities
Some of the key roles and responsibilities include and are not limited to:

• Carrying out preventative Maintenance – Predictive (Criticality assessment, FMECA)
• Planning and documenting good maintenance practices (Work instructions) + Training + H&S
• Management of Maintenance Stores – Critical Spares , (5S, Kanban)
• Measures / KPIS on work task for in- house fitters and contractors ie Quality of Work vs Completion of Maintenance tasks ( time)
• Managing Breakdowns: Be able to react with a planned coordinated approach to resolve problems with minimal downtime -& prioritise the repairs needed.
• Host daily Maintenance Team meetings – Be able to allocate work accordingly and prioritise within the time frame allocated (Time sheets/App)
• Optimise maintenance opportunities during production – and significant breakdowns i.e., opportunity during clean down and changeovers
• Supporting Supervisors + Production as and when required
• Reviewing Production Performance
• Address production issues and manage projects focusing on process improvements.
• Scheduling and management of all maintenance support functions including Health and Safety for contractors and maintenance team.
• Tracking and Scheduling Maintenance Activities & updating management on resolution and action carried out
• KPI benchmarking – Maintenance Activities v OEE ( Downtime / Plant Availability)
• Attending and Contributing to Production Meetings as Required

Essential Criteria
• Degree level, in an Engineering discipline or 5 plus years in engineering management of a manufacturing facility
• Proven track record delivering results within a large production facility or maintenance environment
• Strong understanding of production best practice e.g., Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, TQM (Total Quality Management) and TPM (Total Productive Maintenance).
• Proactive self-starter with the proven ability to lead and work as part of a team and hands on approach to deliver good maintenance programs.
• Strong IT competence with previous experience using MS Office applications / PLC Software.
• Ability to work to deadlines in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
• Well-developed communication and evaluation abilities.
• Good commercial acumen with experience delivering process / product improvements in a highly competitive environment.
• Strong Technical problem-solving ability, with the ability to make timely and effective decisions.
• Flexible approach to working hours.
• Administrative skills and attention to detail.
• Flexibility to work – for Shifts + Night Maintenance
