Job Title: Farm Advisor – Ballinderry Rivers Trust
Location: Cookstown, County Tyrone, with home working option
Reports to: Agriculture & Land Manager
Salary Range: £23,926 – £26,917 plus Pension and Life Assurance
Commensurate with skills and experience.
Contract: Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
Permanent (subject to 6-month probationary period)
Working as part of the Trust’s Agriculture & Land Management Team based near Cookstown, the successful candidate will work across a variety of projects, designed to encourage, and support landowners to adopt changes in agricultural and land management practices, intended to bring about improved water quality and freshwater habitats at a catchment-scale, whilst also benefiting farm businesses.
The post-holder will undertake one-to-one farm visits, working with landowners to identify ways to reduce the risk and impact of diffuse and point-source water pollution from agriculture. This will be done through the production of bespoke Water Environment Management Plans and delivery of capital intervention works through the Trust’s Water-friendly Farming Scheme.
The post-holder will also aim to raise awareness, improve understanding and acceptance amongst farmers and land managers of diffuse and point-source pollution from agriculture and its impact on water quality and the wider water environment.
Engagement with farmers in targeted priority areas of the Ballinderry River catchment and western-shore rivers of Lough Neagh will seek to create, through a voluntary approach, a sense of ownership and achievement within the farming community in relation to improving water quality and water dependant species and habitats in the catchments across the Trust’s operational area.
