YFCU Meet with Diane Dodds MEP

Friday 20th January 2012

YFCU representatives, William Wilson, YFCU President and Michael Reid, YFCU CEO, recently met with Diane Dodds, DUP MEP to discuss a range of issues currently facing the YFCU and its membership.

Speaking after the meeting, Diane Dodds said:
“The Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster have for generations played a key role within the rural community by bringing young people together for personal development, whether that be educational or social.
With so many of our young people leaving rural areas, citing lack of employment opportunity and lack of services for young people as major factors, support for the work of the YFCU is vitally important. At a time when services in rural communities are under threat, the future development of the YFCU has never been more important. The long track record of support given by the Department for Agriculture and Rural Development to the YFCU has reaped dividends for rural communities and for our agriculture industry, and a continuation of that support and partnership will bring further positive results.
It is encouraging to see that with over 50 clubs across Ulster the YFCU continues to go from strength to strength, providing that outlet for our young people, and that is testament to the hard work of the many volunteers who hold responsibility at a local level. Every effort and support must be given to assist that effort, and I will continue to work alongside the YFCU to ensure such support is given.”
